The Gateway JUG 2008-01 Training survey is now closed!

The Gateway JUG 2008-01 Training survey is underway!

Through this survey, we hope to learn what you are working with in terms of development languages and Java-related technologies. We also want to better understand the motivations developers have for participating in training, and perhaps more importantly, why they don't participate. We're also asking technical recruiters to convey their views on client-site development trends and sentiments of consultants they work with every day.

The survey link was e-mailed to anyone who is registered on the Gateway JUG forums. (Those members who are known to work outside the Saint Louis metropolitan area may have been excluded from the e-mail.)

If you're like us, you get invited to participate in surveys all the time. So let me offer three reasons you should take the survey:

  • It will help the Gateway JUG plan presentations and training
  • It will help the Gateway JUG do a better job reaching out to those who can benefit most from what we do
  • It will help the Gateway JUG better understand the development trends taking place in our area

Okay. If that's not enough to get you to play along ...

How about a chance to win an iPod Nano?

Everyone who completes the survey will be eligible to win a FREE iPod Nano. Contest rules and requirements are listed below.

Wait! There's more...

We really want to hear from as many developers as possible. Not just those who regularly attend our meetings and training events. (Though we really appreciate you doing so!)

We want to reach the new college grads and the legacy developers trapped in a COBOL or RPG time warp. We need to survey the corporate developer who usually waits for his company to tell him what to learn. We want to reach out to the many visa holders doing development, especially Java development. We want to reach the women (and men) who dropped out of the development world to focus on raising a family. We want to survey testers who want to be developers or developers who've moved on to management.

In short, we want to reach every Java developer, aspiring Java developer, and technical recruiter we can in the St. Louis area!

So, we're offering a second prize for those of you who go above and beyond the call of duty and referrals

Gateway JUG 2008-01 Training Survey Contest Rules

  • The Gateway JUG 2008-01 Training Survey contest has two prize drawings to be held on February 5, 2008 at the Gateway JUG meeting between 6:00pm and 8:00pm
  • You do not have to attend the Gateway JUG meeting to win either prize; however, we hope you will attend!
  • To be eligible to win either prize drawing, an individual must be at least 18 years old at the time of the prize drawing, work in the St. Louis metropolitan area, and be a software developer, technical recruiter, or a manager or supervisor of software developers. For purposes of this contest, the St. Louis metropolitan area will constitute any location within 60 miles of the Gateway JUG meeting location at 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO.
  • All surveys must be completed and submitted to Zoomerang.com by 5:00pm CST on January 18, 2008 for consideration in this contest.
  • The referral prize drawing will be held first for the winner's choice of a $50 Applebee's Gift Card or a $50 Best Buy Gift Card
    • Any qualifying referrer who did a survey referral is eligible to win the prize for this drawing
    • Every valid survey referral will earn the survey referrer an additional chance in the referral prize drawing. Thus, if there were 20 valid referrals, each person making a valid referral would have a 1 in 20 chance of winning the Referral drawing
    • A survey referral will be valid if all of the following conditions are true:
      • The person who forwarded the survey link must meet the eligibility criteria specified above
      • The person who forwarded the survey link must have completed the survey, providing all required contact information
      • The person who receives the forwarded link must meet the eligibility criteria specified above, must complete the survey providing all required contact information, and must cite the referrer's e-mail address in the appropriate survey field
      • The referral e-mail address cited must correspond to the e-mail address provided by the referrer in his/her completed survey
  • The grand prize drawing will be held after the referral prize drawing. The prize is a new 4GB iPod Nano. Any person meeting the eligibility criteria cited above, who completes the survey (including contact information) has one chance at winning the grand prize. Thus, if we received 100 completed surveys, including required contact information, each survey respondent would have a 1 in 100 chance of winning.
  • The winner of the referral prize remains eligible to win the grand prize
  • All prizes will be available for pick up by the winners at the time of the prize drawing. Should a winner not be present at the time of the drawing, the winner must make arrangements to pick up the prize at the Objistics offices at 1405 Jungermann Road, Suite B, Saint Peters, MO 63376; telephone: 636-498-0635. Mailing or shipping options are available, but the winner assumes all risk for loss during transit. Any prize not claimed by 5:00pm CST February 29, 2008 will be considered abandoned and may be awarded by the Gateway JUG in future prize drawings.
  • Should any dispute about the contest arise, the Gateway JUG officers will confer and take a decision on the dispute. Their decision will be final
